Gut Directed Hypnotherapy
The North Carolina Protocol
Retrain the gut–brain axis.
Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy (GDH) is an evidence-based treatment for IBS/IBD and stress-related digestive symptoms. This same protocol is also very effective for Interstitial Cystitis - the urinary systems equivalent to IBS
Using the North Carolina Protocol, this structured 7-session approach helps the brain send calmer signals to the digestive/urinary system — reducing pain, urgency, bloating, diarrhea/constipation, bladder pain and gut/bladder anxiety over time.
Why IBS/IC Symptoms Persist:
The gut and nervous system are constantly communicating.
When that system gets stuck in a stress loop, the digestive or urinary tract can become overly reactive — even when diet and medications help only partially.
Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy helps reset that communication, allowing the gut to function more smoothly.
What the Research Shows
Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy has been shown to:
• reduce abdominal pain
• improve bowel regularity
• decrease bloating and urgency
• improve quality of life
Many people experience lasting improvement after completing the protocol.
