What are out-of-network benefits and superbills?
Out-of-network insurance benefits allow clients to receive partial reimbursement for services from providers not contracted with their insurance company. Clients pay the provider directly and then submit a superbill—a detailed invoice with service and payment information—to their insurer for reimbursement. The amount reimbursed depends on the client’s insurance plan and out-of-network benefits. A superbill includes provider and client details, service descriptions, and diagnosis codes. This process offers flexibility but requires clients to manage payment and reimbursement independently.

Hypnotherapy: Common Questions
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses focused attention and guided awareness to help the mind and body access deeper layers of experience. It’s similar to a deep mindfulness or meditative state and allows healing to occur at an experiential level, not just through talking.
Will I be asleep or out of control?
No. You remain awake, aware, and in control the entire time. Hypnotherapy is not mind control—you can speak, move, or stop at any point.
Is hypnotherapy evidence-based?
Yes. Clinical hypnosis has research support for anxiety, trauma, chronic stress, pain, and habit change. At Mt. Adams Behavioral Health, hypnotherapy is used within an evidence-informed, trauma-aware clinical framework.
How is this different from stage hypnosis?
Stage hypnosis is entertainment. Therapeutic hypnotherapy is gentle, intentional, and focused on healing. There is no coercion, embarrassment, or loss of dignity.
What does a session feel like?
Most people describe feeling calm, grounded, and inwardly focused. Some notice physical sensations, emotional release, imagery, or a sense of energy moving through the body.
What do you mean by “energy” in therapy?
Energy refers to the body’s felt experience—sensations, emotions, tension, and movement. When stress or trauma is held in the body, hypnotherapy can help these patterns soften and release in a safe, mindful way.
Do I have to believe in hypnosis for it to work?
No. Curiosity and willingness are more important than belief. The process works through awareness and experience, not suggestion or persuasion.
Can hypnotherapy be combined with medication or therapy?
Yes. Hypnotherapy often complements psychotherapy and psychiatric medication management and may be integrated into IOP treatment when appropriate. We will meet for a consultation prior to discussing a treatment plan and course of treatment, but typically hypnotherapy and psychotherapy are combined over a course of multiple treatments.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
When provided by a trained mental health clinician like myself, hypnotherapy is considered safe and supportive. Sessions are trauma-informed and proceed at your pace.
Who might benefit from hypnotherapy?
People seeking support for anxiety, trauma, grief, chronic stress, emotional blocks, chakra blocks, chronic pain, or a deeper connection to themselves often find hypnotherapy helpful.
Can Hypnotherapy be delivered virtually?
Yes
What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based, skills-focused approach that helps individuals navigate intense emotions, reduce distress, and improve relationships through a balance of acceptance and change. Rooted in mindfulness and grounded in practical tools, DBT teaches four core skill areas: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
DBT empowers people to move from crisis toward clarity, respond to life with greater intention, and cultivate healthier, more connected ways of living. This treatment is evidence based to decrease self harm and suicidal behaviors.
Can I work while in IOP?
Yes, but it is difficult. We are happy to support and fill out paperwork for either part time or full time FMLA while in this program - both WA and OR now provide financial support when taking FMLA. If you are interested in DBT groups, we are happy to fill out intermittent FMLA paperwork which protects your job during group times.
What does grounded in the teachings of Energy Anatomy mean?
Energy Anatomy offers a way of understanding the human experience through the lens of the body’s energetic and spiritual systems. We see the body as an interconnected field of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual energies—each contributing to our overall health and sense of wholeness.
In this embodied framework, personal history, emotional patterns, beliefs, and life choices shape the flow of energy throughout the body. When these energies are balanced and aligned, we experience vitality, clarity, and inner strength. When they become blocked—often through trauma, chronic stress, fear, or unresolved experiences—our physical and emotional well-being can be affected.
Through this lens, healing becomes not just symptom relief but an inner realignment—releasing outdated patterns, reclaiming personal power, and strengthening the connection between mind, body, and spirit.
In practice, Energy Anatomy invites individuals to explore how thoughts, emotions, choices, and beliefs directly influence their health. It supports a deeper understanding of the body’s wisdom and encourages healing that is both practical and profoundly meaningful.
